Lake Malawi est un groupe tchèque de musique Indie Pop formé en 2013 par le chanteur principal du groupe, Albert Cerny. Le groupe, dont le nom est inspiré d’une chanson Calgary de Bon Iver, est composé de 4 membres : Albert Cerny (chanteur, guitare et clavier), Jeronym Subrt (basse et clavier), Antonin Hrabal (batterie) et Pavel Palat (guitare). Ils sortent en leur premier single en 2014, Always June. Le groupe se produit dans plusieurs grands festivals tchèques et au Royaume-Uni, et fait les premières parties de grands artistes tels que The Kooks, Mika ou encore Thirty Seconds to Mars. En 2017, ils sortent leur premier album studio, Surrounded by Light.

La République tchèque participe au Concours Eurovision depuis 2007, et manqué cinq éditions du concours : en 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 et 2014. La République Tchèque décida en effet de se retirer pour des motifs financiers. Depuis ses débuts, la République Tchèque n’a participé qu’à deux finales du concours : en 2016 et en 2018. Le meilleur classement du pays demeure la sixième place en finale en 2018.
